No smaller dinosaur ever unearthed is a diminutive species preserved in amber 99 million years ago. It’s a lizard – albeit it is extraordinary.

The nature of a curious and cowboy-sized monster has been perplexed by experts in the last year. It has a lengthy name: Oculudentavis khaungraae. She persists in Myanmar’s amber deposits. (This is India and Bangladesh’s eastern neighbor.) The fossil is simply a birdlike, spherical cranium. It has a thin tapering snout and a lot of teeth. It also possesses a deep and conical lizard-like eye socket. A group of experts identified the specimen as a miniature dinosaur with birdlike characteristics. (Modern dinosaurs are considered birds.) It’d be the littlest dinosaur ever unearthed.

Learning Your Lizard

However, several scientists were skeptical. Another study of the unusual collection of characteristics of the creature stated that it appeared pretty bizarre like a lizard.

The paleontologist in Spain is Arnau Bolet. He works at the Miquel Crusafont Institute of Paleontology in Barcelona. His team claims that he has now found a second fossil that is closely similar to the first. It was also in amber. The bottom part of this new fossil, Bolet’s team writes, plainly reveals it as part of Oculudentavis. It’s a kind of lizard. The new specimen was called O. naga. They also believe this criterion to be of the same genus as the previous fossil.

Researchers have utilized CT scans to evaluate the two samples. Scales and teets connected directly to the jawbones are lizard-like characteristics. In contrast, dinosaur teeth are contained in sockets. Both criteria are likewise specific to the scaled reptiles, with a distinctive skull bone.

However, they do not have the characteristic lizards with their rounded heads and long tapering snouts. Experts remark that these animals differ significantly from all known lizards in their unique combination of characteristics.

Words of Power

Amber: Tree resin fossilized (not sap). Researchers believe that the majority of the gemstone derives from conifers or evergreen plants bearing cones.

Biology: The study of life.

Birds: Warm-blooded winged creatures that initially appeared during the dinosaurs. Birds wear feathers and generate young eggs in a particular nest. Most birds are flying. However, rare species have not been around throughout history.

CT scan: (Also referred to as a CAT scan). The name for axial tomography is short. X-ray scan technology is a specific kind that generates cross-sectional views of the inside of the bone or body.

Dinosaur: A word that was meaning awful lizard. The reptiles came into being about 243 million years ago. All came from reptiles called archosaurs. Eventually, their descendants divided into two lineages. Around 66 million years ago, several enormous dinosaurs went off. But a few saurian people have been living on. It’s the birds we see today (and that’s now what’s known as the ‘bird-hipped pelvis).

Fossil: Every evidence of ancient life or remains retained. There are many fossil types: The dinosaurs are termed “body fossils” for their bones and other bodies—so-called ‘trace fossils,’ things like footprints. Fossils are also samples of dinosaur feces. Fossilization is the process of creating fossils.
